Dowty Propellors PAUT Proof of Concept Testing for GE RISE Blades

USL has completed a successful programme of phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) on GE RISE open fan blades in collaboration with Dowty Propellers. The testing served as a proof of concept to demonstrate inspection capability and inform the specification of a new automated inspection system for this next-generation propulsion technology.

The GE RISE programme represents a significant step forward in sustainable aviation, and the composite blade structures involved present unique inspection challenges in terms of geometry and material complexity. USL’s PAUT expertise and application development capability proved well suited to the task, delivering the inspection data needed to progress the programme with confidence.
