Major new order for multi-axis system
25th February 2016
We have received our largest ever single order for a twin tower squirter system for inspection of complex geometry composite parts
The system will have a scanning volume of 12 x 2 x 3.5 metres (X x Y x Z) and will incorporate a range of different inspection heads, all interchangeable by an automated system of tool changers. The heads will include single and dual squirter nozzles for through transmission inspection and phased array modules for pulse echo testing.
The new design builds on our extensive experience in manufacturing and supporting multi-axis inspection systems throughout the world, but incorporates a range of features bringing the twin-tower style of system fully up to date. These include the use of AC servo systems with absolute encoders, driven by state-of-the-art servo controllers but using the unique USL motion control. As with previous USL multi-axis systems this combination gives users the maximum possible scanning speed for their production parts and therefore reduced inspection costs.
We can achieve scanning speeds when testing complex curved production parts which are more than double those of recent systems from competitors. Part of this is a result of the fact that all the scanning and data acquisition functions are controlled by a single computer, which removes any overheads caused by transferring positional information between computers. At least one competitor supplies a system which incorporates three separate computers and one of the results of this is slow scanning speeds, as you might expect.
This new system will be built at the USL factory in Aldershot, for eventual installation in China.
