GE Aviation Orders Robotic Immersion Inspection Machine for Blisk Assemblies

Ultrasonic Sciences Ltd (USL) is pleased to announce a new order from GE Aviation’s facility in Wilmington, NC, for a one of a kind robotic immersion inspection machine. This advanced system will be dedicated to the ultrasonic inspection of blisk (bladed disk) assemblies, which are essential components in modern aircraft engines. The blisk’s role is critical in engine performance, requiring flawless construction to withstand the extreme conditions in which it operates.

The custom-built system will perform fully automated, high-resolution scanning of the friction welds in blisk assemblies, ensuring precise and reliable inspection of these complex components. Ultrasonic immersion technology enables non-destructive testing that can detect even the smallest imperfections, ensuring the highest levels of quality control. This system replaces a previous machine from another manufacturer that did not meet the stringent performance requirements for this application, demonstrating USL’s ability to deliver superior solutions for highly demanding processes.

The new system’s advanced features, including precise robotic control and detailed data analysis, will streamline the inspection process, improving efficiency while maintaining the high-quality standards GE is known for. By enhancing their testing capabilities, GE Aviation will be able to further optimize production processes, reduce the risk of defects, and ensure the long-term reliability of their engines.

This order strengthens our long-standing partnership with GE Aviation and underscores our role as a trusted supplier of ultrasonic inspection technology for critical aerospace components. We are proud to continue supporting GE in their mission to deliver world-class aerospace technology, ensuring the continued success and reliability of their engines.
